I've finished the first fourth of it ... appears to me that, it is no more than a historical fiction. To some extent it imitates Notre-Dame de Paris, however completely loses to the latter in the writing style.

Follett小說的人物臉譜化比較重，好人壞人分的很清楚。這本對中世紀的生活和教堂建設的詳細描述，足見Follett花瞭認真的功夫。結尾殺Thomas是真實的事件，雖然Kingsbridge是個虛構的地方。

優缺點都十分鮮明：優點是行文流暢，高潮部分文字打動人。缺點是人物臉譜化。
