卡爾·馬蘭提斯（Karl Marlantes）

畢業於美國耶魯大學，曾獲得牛津大學羅德奬學金。雖然有常青藤名校背景，年輕的馬蘭提斯卻誌願成為一名預備役軍官，隨後參加瞭越南戰爭。在戰爭期間，他被授予瞭海軍十字勛章、銅星奬章、2枚海軍榮譽勛章、2枚紫心勛章，以及10枚空軍奬章。
