For more than seven years, Thomas Bachand has been making photographs of Lake Tahoe. His images - which are gathered together here for the first time - possess a timeless quality, capturing the unique geographies and microclimates of the lake region. These in turn are juxtaposed with images depicting the transition the lake and its environs are undergoing due to tourism and development. With an introduction by Dr. Charles Goldman, director of the Tahoe Research Group at UC Davis, this volume depicts not only the region's sublime beauty, but also its place as a nexus for many of the salient issues facing our time. Bachand's exploration of Tahoe's singular beauty, rich history, and salient yet universal challenges, conveys both the area's extraordinary character, as well as our need to understand and care for this unique jewel.
