评分十九世纪末被卖到旧金山的中国女子，又被当作扑克游戏的赌注输给了一个美国人，然后被带到了西部深山里生活了一辈子。本书并没有讲这个poker bride 的故事，只是以她为引子，讲述了淘金热背景下中国人纷纷奔赴加利福利亚淘金，与此同时很多中国少女被卖到加州当妓女。无法掌握自己的命运，异国他乡求生自然是各种辛酸艰辛。时代的悲剧，一声叹息。文字比较枯燥，读到一半弃读。
