Zel'dovich, an eminent researcher known for his theoretical works on combustion and detonation, who served as the first Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The second section examines the issues of heterogeneous combustion and the recent advances in the field. The third section addresses material dealing with unsteady cellular combustion, and the fourth investigates turbulent combustion. The final section treats the subject of detonations and explosions.
