We may tell from this book that the author, at some point, sincerely wanted to deviate from Sherlock Holmes series and write something else. Depressing as the Part II may seem, the novel is not mundane after all.

The spicy language, the subtle humor, the tension and resplendency. It's never about the crime and crime-solving. Holmes is so good at weaving a story around the criminalities that showing a hint of how his mind works would suffice our appetite.

柯南道尔写文还是这样的快节奏，深得我心。

前半段是爵士后期少有的佳作，后半段依旧是其喜欢的背景故事附加结构，一个美国杨子荣的故事，可惜不如前半段严密，真的不是写着骗稿费的么～

2009.12.24 看完还不错。两个故事都很经典。结尾有点错愕。
