I have been in the field of industrial photogra-
phy for more years than I want to talk about,
and I like to think that I kept myself pretty well
informed as I went along; I attended seminars
and trade shows, saw exhibits of all kinds of
photography and art, joined organizations for
the exchange of ideas, and read literally hun-
dreds of books and magazines. Yet in the
process of writing this book I had to do some
research and ask a lot of questions about par-
ticular facets of our work with which I thought
someone else might be more familiar, and I
learned much that I had not known about be-
fore. Most of this new material found its way
into the book, and for that reason I hope that
even the experienced industrial photographer
will find in it something of value.
