He has co-written with Michael Jackson， worked with the West African kora master Toumani Diabate， and the famed taiko drummer Miyuki Ikeda. His lyrical and musical talents have led to many collaborations on film scores， operatic libretti and theatrical productions. He was commissioned to write the election theme song for the Social Democratic Party of Japan.
