Since the first edition of Haunted Eadt Anglia in 1974. several minor changes
have occurred for which the author is not responsible but of which
nevertheless she feels readers may wish to take note.
Over the eleven-year period since the book s first publication, time and
chance have made a few alterations to some of the facts contained within it.
These do not conccern the hauntings themselves, for ghosts are oblivious to
time and (almost) impervious to chance. However , living humans are not, so
lucky. Thus, several of the persons named as percipients in these accounts
have now moved away from tire area of their experiences and live elsewhere,
their places having been taken by others who may or may not be living with
phantoms. In particular, this effect is noticeable in the management of hotels
and inns. where the incumbents move fairly regularly
Other changes of personnel may have arisen as a result of a percipient s
deahth or the simple fact of house removal People no longer fellow the
traditions of their fathers by spending a whoh lifetime in one place.
Anv reader therefore, who decides to visit one of the haunted
mentioned in the following pages is asked to remember that the person wno
originally told me the story may by now be over the hills and far aeay
However, except in a few rare cases, this fact is unlikely to have affected the
ghosts, who are always more concerned with places than people . The
hauntings will be where they always were. And no doubt new folk will be
expeeriencing them in the old surroundings
