fornia’S third—largest city,behind Los Angeles and San
Diego and no longer very much ahead of nearby San Jose．
But that statistic iS misleading：The Bay Area．which
stretches from the bedroom communities north of 0akland
and Berkeley south thrqugh Silicon Valley(the cluster of
Peninsula cities that have become the center of America’s
computer industry)and San Jose，is really one continuous
megacity,with San Francisco as its heart--its hub．
