In this most sinister of institutions, the director, Mrs. Sigsby, and her staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these children the force of their extranormal gifts. There are no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for the vending machines. If you don’t, punishment is brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, Luke becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help. But no one has ever escaped from the Institute.

#7/10吧，剛好在金爺生日這天看完，總的來說不是我的菜，比起小毛孩對抗黑暗巨頭組織的冒險故事我更偏好去年 The Outsider 那種偵探+民俗傳說+超自然結閤的形式；但是這本書野心很大地串起瞭好幾部重要小說（黑暗塔係列、閃靈、睡夢醫生、撒冷鎮），並且給未來的寫作鋪好瞭路（某六個成員的組織），全書意義集中體現在最後一章

忠告所有作傢(特彆是你，老金)：既然要寫一本中規中矩的YA小說，就不要在情節沒有太多轉摺的情況下寫到五百多頁，很無聊——小孩被抓瞭，小孩被關瞭，小孩被摺磨瞭，小孩逃跑瞭，壞人來抓小孩瞭……如果壓縮到200頁，也許能給個3分，但不會推薦給任何人看，實在是沒有新意的一個故事。
