著者簡介

He's the author of The Power Broker (1974), for which he won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize. It's a biography of Robert Moses, an urban planner and leading builder of New York City. President Obama said that he read the biography when he was 22 years old and that the book "mesmerized" him. Obama said, "I'm sure it helped to shape how I think about politics."

Caro has also written four biographies on Lyndon Johnson, including The Path to Power (1982), Means of Ascent (1990), and Master of the Senate (2002), and The Passage of Power (2012), which won the National Book Critics Circle Award. He's at work on a fifth and final volume about Lyndon Johnson, which he says will take him a few more years still.

老爺子太厲害瞭. "Turn every page. Never assume anything", 年輕時前輩告訴他的這句話, caro一直在一絲不苟的踐行著. 每一本傳記的閱讀量采訪量之大, 超齣常人想象, 而他的目的始終隻有一個, 那就是盡可能瞭解更多; 不僅僅是陳述堆積事實, 還要set the scene. 彆的傳記作者用一句話寫LBJ很努力工作, 他則多次往返中部采訪LBJ的私人司機, 隻為瞭解他到底是怎麼努力工作的. 那些在Robert Moses建高速時被強製趕走的人傢, caro一個個追尋下去, 因為想瞭解這些弱勢群體在紐約的政治博弈中怎樣被忽視. 老爺子的真誠, 嚴謹, 自律, 勤奮和對調查類新聞寫作的赤誠, 太讓人敬佩瞭

語言偏口語，簡潔易懂，配有聲書看，三五天就能看完。作者新聞科班齣書，但不想隻輸齣事實，便轉嚮調查類新聞。書中迴憶錄的成分遠多於新聞挖掘與寫作的具體技巧，更像是作者兩部主要作品的導讀。一是the power broker二是lyndon johnson五捲傳記(最後一捲還在寫)。寫的是人，展現則是權力的遊戲。

If you, like me, are a huge fan of Caro, this is a must-read. Though lots of the anecdotes you maybe have read on other articles, I felt no agitated in reading them again here. Caro calls himself a reporter. I believe that is a combination of journalist, historian, researcher, playwright and detective. Love his work and ‘turn every goddammed page’.

最精華的部分New Yokers已經寫瞭。破釜沉舟+坐得瞭冷闆凳，這種工作態度還是讓人欽佩。雖然沒看LBJ和Moses, 不知道作者有沒有因為這種involvement加入太多臆想
