著者简介

He's the author of The Power Broker (1974), for which he won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize. It's a biography of Robert Moses, an urban planner and leading builder of New York City. President Obama said that he read the biography when he was 22 years old and that the book "mesmerized" him. Obama said, "I'm sure it helped to shape how I think about politics."

Caro has also written four biographies on Lyndon Johnson, including The Path to Power (1982), Means of Ascent (1990), and Master of the Senate (2002), and The Passage of Power (2012), which won the National Book Critics Circle Award. He's at work on a fifth and final volume about Lyndon Johnson, which he says will take him a few more years still.

语言偏口语，简洁易懂，配有声书看，三五天就能看完。作者新闻科班出书，但不想只输出事实，便转向调查类新闻。书中回忆录的成分远多于新闻挖掘与写作的具体技巧，更像是作者两部主要作品的导读。一是the power broker二是lyndon johnson五卷传记(最后一卷还在写)。写的是人，展现则是权力的游戏。

老爷子太厉害了. "Turn every page. Never assume anything", 年轻时前辈告诉他的这句话, caro一直在一丝不苟的践行着. 每一本传记的阅读量采访量之大, 超出常人想象, 而他的目的始终只有一个, 那就是尽可能了解更多; 不仅仅是陈述堆积事实, 还要set the scene. 别的传记作者用一句话写LBJ很努力工作, 他则多次往返中部采访LBJ的私人司机, 只为了解他到底是怎么努力工作的. 那些在Robert Moses建高速时被强制赶走的人家, caro一个个追寻下去, 因为想了解这些弱势群体在纽约的政治博弈中怎样被忽视. 老爷子的真诚, 严谨, 自律, 勤奋和对调查类新闻写作的赤诚, 太让人敬佩了

最精华的部分New Yokers已经写了。破釜沉舟+坐得了冷板凳，这种工作态度还是让人钦佩。虽然没看LBJ和Moses, 不知道作者有没有因为这种involvement加入太多臆想
