Shaun Tan is the New York Times bestselling author of The Arrival, Tales from Outer Suburbia, Tales from the Inner City, Rules of Summer, and The Singing Bones. He received the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2011 and won an Academy Award for the adaptation of his picture book The Lost Thing (from Lost & Found: Three by Shaun Tan). 2.5/5 This is my first Shaun Tan's book (I read it at a bookstore) and although I quite adore the illustrations and find the ending empowering, Cicada is still an underwhelming read for it'd be much stronger if there was more substance in the story. Still, I can relate to Cicada a lot because I'm feeling fucking undervalued and invisible at work!
