迷你版政治哲學史

有心讀書者不必讀此書，無心讀書而想略知一二者可奉為入門至寶，Student Guide之名不負讀者。日前在圖書館為友人尋覓政治哲學入門書時偶然發現，見其薄薄一本五十頁且大字體，然從柏拉圖一直講到尼采，是我想提供的思路，於是藉來一閱，後纔發現原來是大名鼎鼎的施派學人Mansfield所著。其大體沿襲《現代性的三次浪潮》，勾勒政治哲學的關鍵時刻與概念，三言兩語間即把核心處道齣，短小精悍可見功力深厚，堪稱大傢小書。奈何其於洛剋以先深入淺齣，盧梭以降點到為止，歐美民主傳統僅存目，是施派作風也是其弊端。我欲嚮友人揭示如今佔據主流的歐美民主傳統以外的思路，此書堪稱絕妙選擇，然我無意直接遮蔽掉對方。為歐美民主辯護的著作和施派著作總是呈現一種二元對立的樣態，實在令我好生煩惱。取今復古纔是我願。

曼斯菲爾德認為一切與希臘哲學或科學有所接觸的民族都屬於西方。”穆斯林和猶太哲學傢對那個傳統來說是必不可少的，這不僅是因為他們自己說瞭什麼，更因為他們把古代的哲學傳遞到瞭中世紀的或現代的西方。" 這本普及性的小冊子隻講西方政治哲學，可作者顯然不想將它取名為《西方政治哲學學生指南》，隻有我國的政治課上會講“西方政治思想史”。曼斯菲爾德將沒有接觸過希臘哲學或科學的東方民族排除在政治哲學傳統之外，這就産生瞭一個問題：東方如果具有可稱為政治哲學的思想，與西方傳統相容，相斥，自成體係，還是對方的子集?
