Averno is a small crater lake in southern Italy, regarded by the ancient Romans as the entrance to the underworld. That place gives its name to Louise Gluck's tenth collection: in a landscape turned irretrievably to winter, it is a gate or passageway that invites traffic between worlds while at the same time resisting their reconciliation. "Averno" is an extended lamentation, its long, restless poems no less spellbinding for being without conventional resoltution or consolation, no less ravishing for being savage, grief-stricken. 著者簡介

Louise Glück has won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Bollingen Prize, and is the former Poet Laureate of the United States. She teaches at Yale University and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

漸至暮年，關注點轉嚮生死。對女性、情感的重點，也從自身轉嚮眾生。小孩業已成年。關於文字和形式的可能性。看詩人沿年作品，也如同看到她一生的軌跡，頗有意思。

有友鄰說疫情之年選擇擅長描寫死亡的格裏剋是諾奬很應景的選擇，這麼一想還真的是，《十月》這篇簡直就是一首《安魂麯》。以前喜歡《野鳶尾》裏的花花草草，然後是《草場》，這個集子關鍵詞: earth, death ,soul，love(?）土地的意象尤其深邃沉鬱。珀耳塞福涅的故事貫穿始終是我熟悉喜歡的味道。
