Averno is a small crater lake in southern Italy, regarded by the ancient Romans as the entrance to the underworld. That place gives its name to Louise Gluck's tenth collection: in a landscape turned irretrievably to winter, it is a gate or passageway that invites traffic between worlds while at the same time resisting their reconciliation. Louise Glück has won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Bollingen Prize, and is the former Poet Laureate of the United States. She teaches at Yale University and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

有友邻说疫情之年选择擅长描写死亡的格里克是诺奖很应景的选择，这么一想还真的是，《十月》这篇简直就是一首《安魂曲》。以前喜欢《野鸢尾》里的花花草草，然后是《草场》，这个集子关键词: earth, death ,soul，love(?）土地的意象尤其深邃沉郁。珀耳塞福涅的故事贯穿始终是我熟悉喜欢的味道。
