本人生物专业，因此对“非洲起源说”“线粒体夏娃”之类也算颇有耳闻。不过其中的具体情况，依然知之甚少。斯宾塞的这本《人类前史》可说是为我提供了这方面的一次生动叙述。全书围绕一个问题展开“我们从哪里来？”当然，时至今日，多数人已经接受了人是从猿进化而来的观念...

作者没有明确的描述出人种分离前的我们的大致外貌，既然他肯定的说那是一种不同于今天任何人种的相貌。关于吐火罗语倒是可以用基因中亚说解释，但是这又明显和语言学不符。关于晚期智人大多程度上牺牲了当地“土著”而生存繁衍下来的描述还是不够（也许根本也没法弄清楚）。
