Richard Brettell's innovative and beautifully-illustrated account, the latest addition to the acclaimed Oxford History of Art series, explores the works of artists such as Monet, Gauguin, Picasso, and Dali--as well as lesser-known figures--in relation to expansion, colonialism, nationalism and internationalism, and the rise of the museum. Beginning with The Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, Brettell follows the development of the major European avant-garde groups: the Realists, Impressionists, Post-Impressionists, Symbolists, Cubists, and Surrealists. 作者簡介

理查德•布雷特爾（Richard R. Brettell），得剋薩斯大學達拉斯分校美學研究教授，曾在得剋薩斯大學、美國西北大學、芝加哥大學、耶魯大學和哈佛大學任教。長期投身於有關現代藝術、博物館的學術研究，發錶有很多現代繪畫、攝影、建築和博物館學方麵的文章。著有《印象主義：法國速繪，1860—1890》《畢沙羅與龐杜瓦：畫傢與風景》《高更與印象主義》等。2010年榮獲瞭法蘭西文學與藝術勛章。

譯者簡介

諸葛沂，浙江大學美學與批評理論研究所博士研究生，現任教於浙江農林大學藝術設計學院、人文•茶文化學院，從事現代藝術史、藝術批評理論與電影研究。著有《尤利西斯的凝視：安哲羅普洛斯的影像世界》，譯有T. J. 剋拉剋《現代生活的畫像：馬奈及其追隨者藝術中的巴黎》（閤譯）。
