Almost thirty years ago, W. J. T. Mitchell’s "Iconology" helped launch the interdisciplinary study of visual media, now a central feature of the humanities. 符合预期。mais pour moi la question est la (ou une) nécessité d'une approche disciplinaire - ou en d'autres termes, la temp-sensibilité d'une anxiété disciplinaire héritée des premiers temps de l'histoire de l'art - à la ca nouvelle époque des sciences humaines.

”Image Science”的论述虽然从“不再把科学实践中的图像当given而是当taken/produced”的论调入手，但这些图像并没有成为直接的分析对象，而是提供了更多（反复？）论证wjtm之前思考的metapicture（比如化石和克隆这对来自历史两头的图像形式）。直接后果就是：说着image/picture的化分是辩证的，但似乎对他来说图像本质还是symbolic的，因而（再次？）错过用“图像怎么看”这个（不一定非是technodeterminist）的问题去丰富图像的ontology和hermaneutics之间的论述。不过因为前几篇言简意赅，希望确实是读他的一个好的startpoint。
