Emphasizing the importance of nuclear issues in the fifties and sixties, Zwigenberg traces the rise of global commemoration culture through the reconstruction of Hiroshima as a 'City of Bright Peace', memorials and museums, global tourism, developments in psychiatry, and the emergence of the figure of the survivor-witness and its consequences for global memory practices.

这本书梳理了45年以来有关广岛核弹的话语流变，描绘了各种势力作用下广岛是如何被关注和冷落的，广岛的自我识别又是如何变化和操纵变化的。很不简单的是作者从如此复杂的历史中能抽出几根线来。因为是新书，对客观看待90年代甚至2010年之前研究也有贡献。唯一不足是不必要的细节太多。（而且讽刺口吻也太明显了吧……）
