Imagine Sukie Davisas surprise and outrage when, after years of silence following their divorce, she receives a letter telling her that her ex-husband, who lives in Charleston with his fourth wife, is seeking to annul their forty-year-old Catholic marriage. Since they had two daughters during that marriage she doesnat understand how this is possible. After discussing the situation with her friends, retired teachers like herself who all belong to the same Red Hat Society, Sukie and her best friend decide to drive south for a confrontation with her aexa and closure to an unhappy portion of her life.
