在普度的时候见过Flynn本人，很和善谦逊的老教授。不过还是给这本书减了一个星，对几个主题的阐释不充足，整体读起来更像是一部英雄谱，主要勾勒的是概念演变的过程。没有完全达到期望。

这么小一本书，还是觉得作者题外话太多

答疑解惑的同时创造出了更多的问题。不算晦涩难懂，门槛高在对读者在哲学各个分支博采众长的要求。如，萨特pre-reflective和reflective consciousness以及胡塞尔phenomenological description的引入都需要对于心灵哲学和现象学的粗浅了解。好在引文精确到位，且十分informative地把存在主义各代表人物（尤其Kierkegaard, Gabriel Marcel, Merleau-Ponty这些我不太熟的）精细入微的思想分歧娓娓道来。存在主义与其独有的inwardness使它在我心中仍高居于马哲之上。然而在政治上缺乏力度的问题仍未得解，或许在处理有关the mass的任何问题上，一定程度的Hegelian reduction依然不可避免。
