至此开启莎翁历史剧第二个四部曲（《理查二世》、《亨利四世》上、下和《亨利五世》），之前写的第一个四部曲（《亨利六世》上、中、下篇和《理查三世》）在历史时间上来说倒正好是第二部的接续。在两部之间写的《约翰王》则历史时间更早一些。在两部之后写的《亨利八世》应该是历史时间最晚的。而最后的《爱德华三世》描写的历史年代居莎翁其他历史剧之首，描写了英法百年战争的起源。十一部历史剧形成了一个完整的体系。后人多遗漏的《亨利八世》和《爱德华三世》，以为莎翁历史剧仅九部，其实不然。但吊诡的是孙法理先生说莎翁历史剧有十二部，我百思不得其解这第十二部到底是哪一部？万友可有知情的，万望告知！？在这里给莎翁的十一部历史剧做了小小的梳理，算是呜呼尚飨一番。在我眼里，理查二世先前的昏庸暴怒与其后的令人同情并不矛盾，伊丽莎白
