not about the media world per se, but how we understand media: the philosophical roots of the poetic, the medial, and the formal. Very insightful.

如果麦克卢汉写的是关于理解“媒介”这个东西，那么这本理论延伸的小书讲的则是“理解媒介”这件事。作者提出一种名为multiattentional/“多关注点”的理解模式，讲人们理解世界的角度分为poetic/formal/medial三种形态，并以此分析了大众对媒介的普遍理解中三个确定性的点，即媒介作为通信器材、媒介作为信息和传播的技术、媒介作为文化表达的载体。读罢不得不感慨近五十年媒介变化过于迅猛了，研究不但永远滞后，而且在开始研究的一瞬间就已经过时了，看07年举的例子感觉像来自上个世纪——telephony是什么老掉牙的东西呀？
