Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide, the third expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition.
The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one anotioner, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.
They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers—they discover a massive topographic anomaly and life forms that surpass understanding—but it’s the surprises that came across the border with them and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another that change everything.

2015年星云奖长篇获奖作品《湮灭》相较于以往星云奖长篇在国内获得的关注度要高那么一些，原因无他，与其一同竞夺该奖的国宝级科幻小说《三体》获得了当年的雨果奖，却在星云奖的角逐下败给了这部作品，不免让人好奇到底是怎样的作品能够力压《三体》一筹。 《湮灭》...

科幻设定上很明显属于迷失那一类的挖巨坑而填不上，主题上也很难达到真正厉害文学的高度，不过那种字里行间那种biological/ecological horror的催眠迷幻感与subtly creeping uneasiness还是很厉害的，尤其是descent into the Tower和遭遇大boss一段，换成电影的话大概就是2001太空漫游里穿越时空那一段的观感。
评分看完电影找来原作看的。作为一本探险队生物学家(相当于电影女主)的自述，整体调性隐忍而悲凉；情节上几乎一直在挖坑而没有给出任何确定的答案。作为三部曲开篇是很棒的开局，同时原著强调主观知觉感受的风格也确实凸显出改编电影的独特之处。
评分读得很慢，100多页花了3天才读完，因为挣扎着想把每句话每个词都看得一清二楚，而且一些细节词汇好晦涩（我语言能力还急需提高）。非常creepy极其weird，和电影一般像是一个bad acid trip，吃了坏掉的蘑菇，做了恶心而不明所以的梦魇，却与电影几乎是全然不同的故事了。全书都是大坑，到底Event是什么，superiors到底知道一些什么，谁把大家的日记放到灯塔里的，塔是谁建的。真的都是外星生物入侵吗？
评分这是遗落的南境系列的第一部，以日记的形式记录了主角参与勘探队探查X区域的经历。主角是一名性格内敛的女性生物学家，全书行文风格克制隐忍，在记录考察过程中遇见的诸多异象的同时，也多有反思，回忆和猜测，因此这份日记给人以一种心灵上的恐惧感，就好像一个人独自在黑暗中胡思乱想，越想越怕。当然，恐惧只是一个层面，字里行间，也可以看出作者在关于对立，转化，背叛，妥协等多种概念不同层次上的探讨，甚至到最后，还能发现有一丝动人的情感在里面。虽然谜底没有解开，但作为三部曲的首部，已属精彩佳作。
评分Great adaption for the movie.but still not so hard-core as 三体.intensive and powerful wording was impactful.The movie showed more vivid of this bizarre and untouchable world than the book.
