核心观点是农民起义背后有自己的一套心理机制、价值观、思想和结构。从英国法国印度中国（主要是《湖南农民运动考察报告》）关于农民起义的史料里挖掘能充实农民起义的基本面（“否定”、“模糊性”、“形式”、“扩散”和“区域性”）的论据。不是很喜欢这种使用史料的方法，生生掰开再放到不同的名目下，生硬了些。对印度史不熟悉，跳过了不少。

暂时只读了intro，二十世纪是农民革命的世纪，这本书尤其反对对这些运动的精英化理解（农民需要外部的“领袖”不然会没方向/做过头，或者农民革命是更大的民族/社会主义革命的一部分），尝试解释殖民语境下农民insurgent consciousness的一些普遍、基础的要素，用的是阶级矛盾和Gramsci的集体革命意识分析，用的历史是从1783到1900英国殖民下且还未被民族主义和社会主义“侵蚀”的印度农民起义。我的问题是，这种农民和精英在话语/意识层面的不对称由于有物质和权力不对称的加持，导致不可能像“内部矛盾”那样通过leaderfulness来解决，最终总是前者被吸纳到后者的主体中去，可以说二十世纪农民的行动创造了历史，但其主体却是缺位和displaced的？
