Henry Scott Stokes is a noted journalist who has worked for both the New York Times and the London Times. He was educated at Winchester College and New College, Oxford. After graduating, he moved to Japan, where he became a journalist of the Tokyo bureau of The Times. Also around this time, he became close friends with famous Japanese author Yukio Mishima. Most recently, he has edited an anthology entitled The Kwangju Uprising: Eyewitness Press Accounts of Korea's Tiananmen. He lives in Tokyo.

The explanation for Mishima's death lies in his entire life.
评分三岛由纪夫一生的故事。总的来说是很好的传记，作者是三岛的朋友，资料充足，分析听起来也合理，但有些地方不是太确定因为作者日语能力和对东亚历史文化的了解有限。了解了三岛创作的不同时期，也确认了以前的一些猜想。从50年代末虚无主义时期开始他就在寻找出路，但根本找不到出路。他的死让我想起被太阳虫侵入大脑的索哥，虽然在旁人看来是一场闹剧，但哪怕自我欺骗也好，至少那个时刻他相信自己所践行的美学。就赞美太阳好了。虽然这么说有点不近人情，但也实在想不到在写完丰饶之海之后他怎么才能不死，他还能干什么呢，难道去东大讲文淆理论吗？之前看小说的时候就有一个感觉，三岛就像一只蛋鸡，一生只能下一千个蛋，全部下完就要被宰杀，然后加盐料酒葱姜八角花椒酱油小火慢炖配米饭食用。别后不知春雪霁，人生真是一场虚空大梦呢。
