著者简介
斯特罗伊克（Dirk Jan Struik，1894-2000），1894年出生于荷兰鹿特丹的一个教师家庭，1922年以题为《黎曼流形上的张量方法》的论文获得荷兰莱顿大学博士学位，1924年受洛克菲勒基金资助赴意大利罗马与张量分析奠基人列维一齐维塔合作研究，并在那里对数学史产生了兴趣，次年就到德国哥廷根与库朗一起协助编辑克莱因的《数学在19世纪的发展》，同时自己开始研究文艺复兴时期的数学史。1926年他接受美国麻省理工学院提供的职位并在那里度过了余下的学术生涯。在麻省理工学院，他与维纳合作研究微分几何，同时继续研究数学史，1940年成为麻省理工学院的正教授。他的提纲挈领的巨著《数学简史》出版至今几经改版重印，被翻译成多国文字长盛不衰。
