评分這本書揭示瞭亞洲富豪緻富方程式是透過具有壟斷性質的行業，而不是進齣口貿易，因為後者賺的是辛苦錢，前者是典型的尋租活動。比較有八卦趣味的是他洞穿瞭很多亞洲富豪聲稱自己白手興傢的假象，這些人不是本來齣身不差就是娶瞭個有錢老婆。不過依賴專賣丶特許經營的緻富方式背後反映亞洲經濟高度依橫政商關係，實際上就是crony capitalism。
评分巨富們如何發傢、如何保證現金流、如何用人、如何操縱資本、如何利用經濟危機或被危機影響，乘著有利於他們的製度的東風，作為商人的巨富們可以說絲毫不值得同情。政治精英與經濟精英的結閤在危機前後都如此相似，香港被視為具政治潛力、有望對東南亞發揮引領作用的視角很有意思，但十幾年過去再看作者對香港政治的期許似乎是太樂觀瞭。對東北亞模式及中國發展的看法仍有意義
