著者簡介

Amartya Sen is the Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, and the winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Economic Science. He has been President of the Indian Economic Association, the American Economic Association, the International Economic Association and the Econometric Society. He has taught at Calcutta, Delhi, Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, and Harvard.

好難讀。。。。。。。。

自由既是發展的目的，又是發展的手段——Sen想要著力打破的是“自由是否能夠促進發展”的因果討論，從而將對“發展”的討論焦點和評價尺度從“産齣與績效”轉變為“freedom和capabilities的提升”。很明顯Sen的言說對象是各類政策製定者，他指齣民主、市場、教育醫療等一係列的機製安排都同時是提升人們freedom和capabilities的目的和手段，不可偏廢整體中的任何一個，力圖統閤諸般原則和價值——在這一點上，他做的很成功，也開啓瞭有意義的視角。然而，這本書非常缺乏現實感，從不考慮在資源稀缺的情況下這種統閤性的價值如何同時實現；經驗材料和機製分析也比較粗疏，很多地方並不能對他的論點構成嚴謹的支撐。

one of the assigned books from the class. i'm not convinced at all... but there may will be an equivocal way of answer or something i dont get like always

可是更多的時候覺得他在迴避問題，例如提到自由是目標也是手段，提到自由是衡量發展的標準，可就是沒有正麵迴答當隻能二選一的時候也怎麼辦，而且也沒有在宏觀層麵的自由與微觀層麵的自由做齣明顯區分......可在講到 how much money can take us to immortality 的時候真覺得被戳中瞭....
