好誠實的文字，因為是傢書，寫的人完全沒想到百年後會有人齣版，誠實到看完全捲的編者（我看的這一本是所有書信很小的一部份），覺得這個伯爵是一個驕傲自私虛偽的人。但在這本他教兒子如何成為紳士的信集他說的話卻很值得學習和思考。例如如何分辨同伴與友情；分辨滿足縱慾後的歡愉和快樂；為什麼要保持說話用詞的有禮優雅；即使對不感興趣的話題都要專注地聆聽，如何運用時間；認識一個人不要看齣身要看優點等。這是一本教兒子如何處世為人的書，但為人的方麵比較多。他認為隻要成為一個品格高尚，言行端雅，勤奮有為就自不然受到別人的歡迎和尊重，他的一些想法比有些現代人還要先進，例如他說兒子對他的愛並不是因血緣而成，而是對父親的愛的迴饋，如果父親沒有愛兒子，兒子不愛父親是再正常不過的事情。
