街頭青年，異裝癖，大罷工與皮肉生意，或許是我讀過最brutal的一部書，這就是最原始最粗礪最生動的1950年代布魯剋林黑街群像，滿是不堪又寫實的暴力，讀得直打冷顫，像重機槍掃射也像小刀戳進來來迴攪動，太殘酷瞭。感覺書寫到這份上，句法、拼寫、標點什麼的還重要嗎？ The Smiths的專輯The Queen is Dead就是從這其中的一篇藉的標題，據說莫老師還特意在這書被禁20周年的時候發的專輯。The Velvet Underground的好多歌都受到這本書的影響，David Bowie的top100書單裏也有這書。（復製粘貼，沒誠意

1950年的紐約底層社會，黑暗殘酷陰冷。連書中那麼一點點的溫暖也覺得很虛幻。書中兩個故事印象很深：描寫的變性人Georgette雖然遭受殘忍對待，仍然充滿希望和對愛情的幻想. 妓女Tralala是多嬌艷的花，最後卻被殘忍輪奸。看這本書聽The Smiths最有感覺。想起那句"you could meet somebody who really loves you, so you go and you stand on your own and you leave on your own and you go home, and you cry and you want to die".
