卡森·麦卡勒斯，20世纪美国最重要的作家之一。1917年2月19日生于美国佐治亚州的Columbus。29岁后瘫痪。著有《心是孤独的猎手》、《伤心咖啡馆之歌》、《婚礼的成员》、《金色眼睛的映像》、《没有指针的钟》等小说作品。其中，《心是孤独的猎手》在美国“现代文库”所评出的“20世纪百佳英文小说”中列第17位。1967年9月29日麦卡勒斯在纽约州的Nyack去世，时年50岁。

我以为麦卡勒斯所有的故事都是重复《心是孤独的猎手》，事实证明我看的书太少了。这么精悍这么哥特这么荒唐这么基情的小说，实属茶余饭后睡前便时之不二选择。之前就看过马龙白兰度和泰勒的电影剧照，所以一打开原著就自动对号入座了。比作者别的书大概都浅显（当然也不是说其他有多深奥）。

麥卡勒是寫故事的好手。故事只是簡單地以倒敘法寫一宗美國軍營裏發生殺人案，但人物關係的張力貫徹始終。不是什麼深仇大恨才會殺人，往往卻是無聊得發慌卻又無處申訴的狀態使人突然抓狂，所有人都是那個處境的受害者。
