A divorced, middle-aged English professor finds himself increasingly unable to resist affairs with his female students. 灵魂脆弱如旧时包裹软糖的糯米纸，一旦被撕毁，便再也无法复原。所以受过大伤害的人，只能带着残破的灵魂，自暴自弃的活下去吧。这一点，Lucy和那些耽美漫画主角很像啊。

评分困难。剧情设定都是南非太熟悉的真实场景，文字简洁故事性高。但人物完全无法喜欢起来，所有人的行动都不能理解和认同。上一本刚读完生命中无法承受之轻，下意识地就把David跟Tomas对比了，同样都是womanizer，面对public prosecution时也都选择了避开而不愿屈服，但Tomas就讨人喜欢多————了。看完这本就是一肚子气，因为真实地过分所以简直想踹所有人物一脚（。

库切是我非常喜欢的一位作家，也是越读越复杂的一位敏于深思的作家。他对人性的深思不仅仅有益于成年人重新对人生保持警觉和反省，即便对于一个在成长中的年轻人来说，对于他们如何深入这个世界，而不是浅尝辄止地批判来说，库切的作品至少不是那种能许多年弃之不顾的文化遗址...
