韆辛萬苦之後終於讀完瞭大部頭的Middlemarch，是我迄今為止讀過的Eliot最好看的小說。以男作傢身份寫作的Eliot從來不避諱她對女性及其生活問題的關注，但她的judgment與傳統意義上的feminism又相去甚遠--其結果就是她的書離經叛道般得格外有趣。
