As Personal Representative and Principal Advisor to the President of Peru, he initiated that country's economic and political reforms. His previous book, The Other Path: The Economic Answer to Terrorism, was a bestseller throughout Latin America as well as in Washington, D.C.

大一读了中文版,这次summer program有机会读了英文版。对照之下中文版的翻译算是不错的。书的论点其实很简单,先把资本(capital)定义为有活力、有再生产潜力的财富(wealth),然后谈一个清晰、有执行力并尊重当地风俗习惯的私有财产制度如何释放表面上贫穷落后地区所存在的大量“死财富”作为资本的活力。有启发性,有强大的数据支撑(研究团队跑遍秘鲁、菲律宾等国家的政府部门和街头),也有独特论点。不过太集中于财产权一点,忽略了经济社会发展的很多其他方面,也就是较有学术水平的畅销书而已。
