Yet, sad to say, I am always too late. The fishes expire. And because it is evil to waste anything, I take those dead fishes to market and I sell them for a good price. With the money I receive, I buy more nets so I can save more fishes."

猜想应该是翻译的缘故，书中硬伤不少。而且作者的语言风格和营造的气氛削弱了很多。谭恩美还是比较适合写中国背景的华裔母女之间的故事，这种灵异小说不太吸引人。
