suffocating, and gradually lost my patience while reading the last 2 chapters......

............比較無言~很簡單的英語，訴說一個外國人會很感興趣的故事吧~~作為中國讀者~覺得挺一般的~~

不幸的故事，作者從姑姑那裏獲得力量，試圖團結傢人，卻被繼母阻撓，與財産無關，隻需要認同，尋求歸屬感而不得。籠罩在暗色調中，文筆很好

這本和Wild Swans一起讀，明顯看齣兩個作者英文功底的差彆。不得不感慨香港早期的英文教育真的是潛移默化。不過在情節和格局上這本比不上wild swans,畢竟三代人的曆史厚度在那裏。非常喜歡這本的文字和語言，希望哪天也可以達到這樣的寫作水平。

已经忘记当年选择阅读马严君玲这本传记的初衷，很可能是抱着一种研究态度，想了解二战初期的中国，也好奇那时候的富人生活。如果真是这样，我大概没有从马严君玲的书中得到我想要的信息。 落叶归根其实就是常见八点档的浓缩版。狐狸精般的继母，美丽但阴险。色迷心窍的父亲，...
