人生雖苦，但不能停止反抗。

不幸的故事，作者从姑姑那里获得力量，试图团结家人，却被继母阻挠，与财产无关，只需要认同，寻求归属感而不得。笼罩在暗色调中，文笔很好

我哭的部分：Adeline的小鸭子被狗咬了。 哭完之后自己也很无语，我都这么大的人了……不过这也说明这本书确实写得好。

精神书店偶得，很是沉重的一本书，在时代与家庭的挣扎冲突中，仿佛看见了平行时空中有着相似际遇的另一个自己。作者一生都在寻求家庭对自己的认同和爱，诸多挣扎痛苦也都缘系于此，还好，她人生中最重要的两个人Aunt Baba和Bob，都未曾离开过。语言细腻而丰富，中粤英三语俱佳

这本和Wild Swans一起读，明显看出两个作者英文功底的差别。不得不感慨香港早期的英文教育真的是潜移默化。不过在情节和格局上这本比不上wild swans,毕竟三代人的历史厚度在那里。非常喜欢这本的文字和语言，希望哪天也可以达到这样的写作水平。
