封麵太糟糕，導緻我一度很不情願讀這本書……好看！不管是對美國寄宿高中還是認知自我與對文學及其附屬品的追尋的描寫都細膩又引人入勝，又讓我不自覺地稍微和自己做瞭下比較。書中可以看齣作者對某些作傢的喜惡，對沒看過Ayn Rand的我來說真不知是喜是憂。
评分上世紀新英格蘭的美國高中男校，據說是以Hill School為背景創作的，書中提到的所有prepschool都是百年老校，對於現在的美高黨也耳熟能詳。在我眼中或許是Wolff筆力最佳的作品，語言精煉深刻，提到的所有作傢作品都確有其人其事，也可當作一本當代書評。貫穿全文的兩條綫索相輔相成，一條當然是這所沒名字的Old School，另一條就是被同樣沒名字的敘述者頂禮膜拜的海明威。詩歌，文學，創作，競爭，仰慕與批判，渴望與幻滅，茫然的激烈的，熱情的冰冷的，刹那間浮齣水麵的靈感，和一念之差中荒唐滅頂的大錯。最關鍵的一刻，海明威的轟然倒塌與敘述者遭受的驅逐相交錯，一切結束得突然得不真實，而多年之後，迴到那所Old School的，也再也不是那個“我”瞭。當局者迷，外人也無法理解其心境。
