A tremendously useful and insightful guide to what history is and is not. Written in extraordinary lucidity not only provides great pleasure in reading, but also inspires deep thinking about history, how it should be studied and why. Highly recommended for history students and anyone bothered to take history seriously.

非常好，強烈推薦。雖然短，但是該提到的基本都提到瞭，而且寫得也好，有理有據，娓娓道來。A history of (Western) history (or historiography)，因為主要用的是Western sources。曆史基本上是隻要有人的地方就會有，所以沒有提及非西方文化的人是怎麼解讀曆史的有點有悖作者的argument，唯一的缺憾吧。
