原来模特赚钱比想象中少和难多了，读完之后对时尚业的了解精进了很多。模特在作者笔下简直是世上最差的工种之一：没有五险一金，收入无保障（并且商家常常用定价不明的商品当作报酬），对身材严苛的要求，却缺乏对身体的保护和科学监管（你必须要瘦，但没有人会告诉你如何瘦下来），需要时时刻刻付出的身体和情感劳动（甚至需要与客户调情以得到工作，而直男模特也无法幸免需要向同志客户抛去性暗示）。因为是追求外表的行业，对于性别、人种、阶级、年龄的歧视得以被赤裸裸地摆在台面上，明目张胆得有些残忍了。这本书是作者的博士论文，所以读起来完全是社科论文的结构（比如第一章反复讲为什么这个研究相当重要），关键理论还被反复提及，如果当作一般科普读物来读的话未免觉得有点啰嗦。

评分个人认为，质性研究向来注重3件事：细致、结构、勇气。1是素质，2是灵气，3是底线。这本书更多的像是，分好了类，然后采访、人名、应用的堆砌。虽然Mears是我老师，还是应该多读几遍学做工。
