His work takes on a burlesque character, like a good pyrotechnic show in an old warehouse on the edge of town. Martin Black's images are good-natured, non-subversive and powerful photos from a world which he can only capture because he looks really very closely. And because he understands what he is doing. Incidentally some well-known protagonists in the scene, such as Madeleine Le Roy and Fr√§ulein Venus, also romp around in the book - an unmistakable sign that a glossy image and glossy prints are no coincidence here. But no one who looked at the gorgeous photos would think that anyway.
