简直不能太棒！从题材上来说，这本小说在书写同性感情经历上绝对是先驱；从技法上看，文笔细腻又不过分煽情，章节之间的切换极其自然，人物的回忆和现在融合得恰到好处，尤其是最后David想像Gio临死前可能的经历与他自己并置起来，暗含了David自己生命的“死亡”。Gio和David的那间房一直在小说的中心徘徊，成为整本书的灵魂所在。这间房曾经是两人不为世俗所容的爱情庇护所，后来在David眼中却成为他无法逃脱的“罪恶”。David显然是个为internalized homophobia所困扰的弱者，或者更严厉一点的话，就是个渣男；相反，Giovanni看得比他透，并不看重别人的非议，心甘情愿为爱献身。所以我或许可以理解David那种对自己性向的焦虑和惶恐，却不能原谅他对G的残忍，对自我的逃避。

最有名的一本Baldwin，但相比较其他 觉得格局有些小。在巴黎休假的两天里读完，觉得美国人还是写美国 更流畅一些。

在一篇AJ文里看到这本书，读的时候脑补出一部完整的电影，如何表现Giovanni的美，巴黎清晨的阳光是怎样，David离去的身影，被诸多美丽又悲伤的细节填满了脑子。对三个主角的刻画几乎完美地击中了我，他们每个人身上都有一部分trigger了我心里的一些什么。有思想有胆识的Hella却说出甘愿扔掉所有书籍乖乖相夫教子，因为她害怕如果不能依靠一个男人，自己就不知道如何做女人。Giovanni和David，一个爱得太用力一个根本不会爱，如故事里说的，世界上一半是只会记得的疯子，一半是只会忘却的疯子。我很难过。

People who believe that they are strong-willed and the inasters of their destiny can only continue to believe this by becoming specialists in self-deception. In Paris you feel all the time gone by ,in New York all the time to come. 有些地方写得挺有意思的，特别是涉及到些许文化差异时的对白。

在htgawm s03e01里出现的书。

david的回忆充斥着对这段感情的避之不谈。他没有深入任何亲密的举动，没有描绘更多露骨的画面，甚至没有怎么正视giovanni的正面形象。他不仅是因为自己对gio的残酷而愧疚，更是因为自己对男人的欲望而愧疚，也是因为自己软弱无能的时代羁绊而愧疚。 我觉得主题就是逃避——直到...
