the success of Friedan's The Feminine Mystique and its influence on the women’s movement is far from Friedan’s individual achievement. Instead, Coontz argues that it is the political activism (the influence of the left wing ideology and the discursive feminist thoughts) enabled the reception of Friedan and her work.
