图书描述

讲述瑞恰慈(I. A. Richards)在1929年到1979年间，五次到中国的历程 （Rodney Koenecke 的材料基本详尽，但是忘记了瑞恰慈夫妇第一次到中国是1927年在亚洲度蜜月的时候）。

从30年代开始，瑞恰慈在中国的活动就以“基本英语”Basic English (British American Scientific International and Commercial English)为中心。Koenecke认为，往常学术论述过分倚重瑞恰慈的文学批评活动，而未能充分重视瑞恰慈在中美英三国的基本英语活动。
