After signing his first professional contract as a 21-year-old in the living room of his parents' home in Oregon, Johnny Pesky spent the better part of the last seven decades with the Boston Red Sox. He has seen it all--from the heartache of 1946, 1978, and 1986 to 2004, when that heartache finally ended for Red Sox fans with their first World Series title in 86 years. It was Pesky, along with Carl Yastrzemski, who raised the championship banner on Fenway Park's centerfield flag pole to open the 2005 season. Pesky has worn the Red Sox uniform longer than anyone and has served the Sox in virtually every capacity: All-Star player, coach, manager, broadcaster, goodwill ambassador, and all-around good guy. He has been given the unofficial title of Mr. Red Sox.
