著者簡介

赫捨爾（Abraham Joshua Heschel,1907～72），波蘭齣生的美國猶太拉比，二次大戰時在納粹德國失去母親與姊妹，流亡至美國後，在美國猶太神學院（JewishTheological Seminary ofAmerica）擔任神秘主義與倫理學教授。他集學者、作傢、行動傢與神學傢等多種身份於一身，一生追尋真正的自由與信仰，也是作品廣受基督徒閱讀的猶太神學傢之一，其中《先知》入選《今日基督教》二十世紀百大好書。他最具影響力的作品除本書外，還包括《覓人的上帝》、《人不是孤島》等。赫捨爾曾與馬丁路德?金博士一起參與1965年的美國民權運動遊行，他寫道：“當我在賽爾瑪遊行，我的腳在祈禱。”（WhenI marched in Selma, my feet were praying.）
