更像是一部scifi素材集附錄很有用收集瞭古典作品中與Atlantis有關的所有片段。作者為證明Atlantists的不可信花瞭大力大篇幅地講瞭瑪雅文明地殼運動及其他各種地質地理考古知識。又是一種我不喜歡的文風可能因為寫小說的緣故到處抖不深刻的機靈

作者是美國20世紀科幻小說作傢，活瞭90多歲。這本書1954年齣版，1970年略有增補。閱讀各類雜書驚人得多，博學超過大部分學者，對古典著作熟，對各種偏僻作者更熟，絕對是通人。隻是對有些基礎知識敘述較多，對於各類怪人和怪書概括多。所以八卦多、掌故多，但不免枝蔓也多。雖沒讀過他的小說，但對他的閱讀量和學識肅然起敬。這本書仍然是這一話題的重要參考書。
